If my balance is impacted should i get a cane?

I have noticed that over soft ground i am more confident in my balance but over paved surfaces 'the fear' sets in. Let me tell you walking through London yesterday because of the tube strike felt precarious. I am on the waiting list to see a physio to work on my balance but i am considering getting...

Balance Issues

Hi, I was diagnosed with MS over a year ago. Symptoms presented themselves initially as double vision and loss of balance. It cleared up though and I've been pretty much okay since, until 5 months ago. Since May my balance has gotten significantly worse. I use a cane now (quite a fancy one if i do s...

Cycling with compromised balance

I used to be a keen cyclist prior to getting MS. From losing my balance (and ability to walk unaided for long distances) to today, I haven’t rode a bike for 10 years. Now that my young son has learned how to cycle, he wants me to join him on a short bike rides around our block of streets. Is it a g...

Balance Issues

I've got balance issues (might be the cause of vertigo perhaps) and I'm going to see the neuro-physio but is there anything in the mean time I might be able to do to possibly improve it? Already looking at building up my core muscles.

Balance/walking

Hi all Hope you're all doing as well as can be! I have been going through a relapse for a year now. It's done the rounds on me but has resulted in a considerable lack of balance when I'm walking meaning that I can't walk unaided. It's annoying because before this relapse it would have been hard to...

Do you love cycling but find balance a problem?

I feel like my MS has got worse and I cannot walk very far anymore, but I do not want to use a wheelchair as I want to be upright for as long as possible. If I could ride my bike then I could travel further and would not feel so restricted. I am too unstable on my two wheel bike but I am convinced...

To walk quickly or to work on my balance

I've seen quite a few neuro physiotherapists. I've often asked what is more of a priority; to hold on to the rails of a treadmill and try walking at a decent pace, (this is supposed to encourage the messages to travel quicker) or to walk on a treadmill at a very slow pace and try to not touch the si...
