As yet there are no treatments available to repair myelin, the substance that forms a protective sheath over the nerves and which is damaged by the immune system in people with multiple sclerosis. Myelin sheath repair is regarded as a crucial problem to be addressed by MS researchers, because they believe that remyelination could alleviate many of the symptoms that MSers experience. There are numerous studies ongoing to determine how repairing the myelin sheath could help MSers.See what other members of the Shift.ms community are saying about myelin sheath repair below, or watch our expert videos.

Do You Get Prof G's Newsletter?

You ought to. It is a brilliant patient focused resource. If you ask him nicely it is free. The big US MS meeting has just ended. It is called ACTRIMS. Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN)

Anyone being bombarded with the benefits of NMN for MS? I’m really confused, as some studies show that taking this to produce more NAD has a positive effect on myelin repair and protection and other studies suggest it can trigger axon degeneration. I had been taking it (bit silly as research and cli...

A future possibility - (from WebMD)

Researchers from the University of California, Irvine, have found that taking N-acetylglucosamine, a simple sugar compound that can be used as a dietary supplement, has helped ease MS patients’ inflammation levels and has the potential to promote myelin repair. Michael Demetriou, MD, PhD, the lead...

Interesting, Arsenic trioxide, aiming to treat RRMS

I often wonder what causes scientists to try these things, but certainly glad they think "outside the box" https://multiplesclerosisnewstoday.com/news-posts/2024/08/21/eu-patent-given-arsenic-trioxide-aiming-treat-rrms/

EU patent given to arsenic trioxide, aiming to treat RRMS

The patent given to Medsenic covers various formulations and methods of action of the therapy and may lead to its testing in RRMS patients.

📽️ FINAL EPISODE! Womanhood episode 6: MS & menopause 🤐

Ever heard of the alternative meaning of MS? Menopause Silence. While some leading HCPs are becoming more vocal on this topic, not much is known about the impact of menopause on MS. In fact, from 1980-2020, there were only 10 research studies on the topic 🤯 In the last episode of our Womanhood s...
