📽️ FINAL EPISODE! Womanhood episode 6: MS & menopause 🤐

Ever heard of the alternative meaning of MS? Menopause Silence. While some leading HCPs are becoming more vocal on this topic, not much is known about the impact of menopause on MS. In fact, from 1980-2020, there were only 10 research studies on the topic 🤯 In the last episode of our Womanhood series, Katt, Shereena, Roxy, Emma and Evie dive into the unchartered waters of MS and menopause. Symptoms overlap, lack of information, post-menopausal progression; as always, no topic is off the table. Share your own experiences in the comments 👇 Missed an episode in the Womanhood series? Girls I want to say it's fantastic that you have done this series and you have raised so many important issues. What stands out over every subject is the lack of information and support - that's pretty universal, particularly the lack of support with mental health for women living with MS. I'm hesitant to make the following comment as I really don't want to be negative, but I think it's warranted and intended constructively. I think you've missed a trick a bit in terms of your age representation. There are lots of women both very much younger and very much older than the group represented in these discussions. The fact that you are discussing the menopause without any representation from that age group or anyone who has gone through it makes the point really. For what help it may be, my experience is that all of my symptoms where triggered into overdrive when the menopause hit and HRT got that back under control. That was just me and my GP, no MS care professional involved in that decision. I'd recommend it. There are lots of arguments for and against HRT for everyone, but in the setting of MS for me it's a no brainer. Menopause made it worse, HRT made it better. Well done and thank you for an excellent series - I think it would be great to have this platform on an ongoing basis but maybe bring in a wider age range 🙏

Thank you for shining a light on this important topic. As MS affects more women understanding how hormones affect the disease is important. I think men also have a lack of understanding of how testosterone affects disease progression. More research is definitely needed 👍.
