Dom’s Covid Diary – Mon 4th May

11:50h so a bit late to say rise and shine. Covid lockdown = chores. Mrs S works from the dining table so every time I pass by I realise I am under her gimlet eye and try to do something worthy. I just cleaned the cooker top and hood after the bread was put in to bake. Self-imposed tidying anxiety. Who knew? - I grew up lovingly parented by a mother whose mantra was, 'if you're not screaming blue murder then it probably isn't broken so we'll sling it and wait 30 min before doing anything rash, like going to A+E.' It certainly toughened you up and as cruel as it felt then to an attention seeking kid, itreally did equip me not to flap too much later in life. As a GP mate said to me when I was a Bobby, 'If no one died and the police weren't involved then it can't be that serious.' I think she has a point. Of course, my daughter just rolls her eyes when the first word is uttered now and I get a, 'Dad, you are SOOOO boring. I know that.' It seems that these days, there is little that she doesn't know. Sort of reminds me of me though so it must be karmic payback. - There are few more general interest things that touch on MS for you now. - A 61y old doctor's account of getting through the full Covid-19 infection. Not the funniest of reads as I think that it could be any one of us. Prof G had it shared with him by a colleague and he has reposted it here: https://multiple-sclerosis-research.org/2020/05/mscovid19-frontline/ - I know that many of you don't like MRIs. I think they are a great place to practice breathing exercises and catch up on kip. Nonetheless, like all tech, they are getting smaller: http://tiny.cc/smallerMRI - The heat really bothers me. The following isn't an advert per see. I bought some of these and they worked for me. Summer is coming and if the heat is an issue then you may think of these - https://www.thermapparel.com/ - It is very likely that many of us will contract Covid-19 before an effective vaccine is available. This is advice from MS specialists about preparing to get it. Remember, the vast majority of people don't need hospital. Our MS does not make us any more likely than average to get it, and the idea that DMTs may increase our risk has changed fro9m a general concern to a few small specific circumstances. This is the recording of a webinar about MS patients making sensible arrangements. Frankly, having had 12 different ops that have required hospital admission many of the hints and tips are not MS specific. It is sensible and common-sense advice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrMSJAY8-Bc&w=420&h=237 - Who doesn't like a bit of proper science? I do. Even better; this is a pre-print paper written by Polish researchers but in English. Follow MD's link after reading his run-up article here: https://multiple-sclerosis-research.org/2020/05/can-ms-treatment-be-protective-against-mscovid19/ - Until next time.
