UK Time scale? dx to treatment how long?

Hi, I work part time and have a 1.5yo daughter. I struggle to walk and cannot carry her. After RRMS dx on 1st June, I was told I would see the consultant again in Sept, and that I would see an MS nurse beforehand to discuss the treatments available to me. Today I have just found out that I will be seeing the MS nurse in September, and the consultant in Jan next year. At this rate, when am I supposed to get treatment? My stress level have just shot up and I just don't know what to expect anymore. In need of reassurance, is this normal? Thanks

Hi @noelie, unfortunately, this seems to be the way the NHS is working these days. So, it's down to us to "rattle cages" to make the NHS perform better. It's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil! Phone up your MS Nurse, explain your circumstances as a young Mum and ask to see them urgently. Point out that you were advised that you would see them prior to the Consultant's appointment in September and ask them if they could find out why that has been moved to January! As your diagnosis went from CIS in January to MS in June, can I assume that you had another "episode" at some time in the interim? Or was there another reason for the change in diagnosis, e.g. positive lumber puncture result? Have your walking problems commenced recently? If so, I would have thought that you would have been offered Steroids to try and address this. Anyway, the meetings with the MS Nurse and the Consultant will probably concentrate on treatment options for you. It would be very wise for you to read up about the different options, so you can actively take part in these discussions. You can then request the treatment option that fits your lifestyle. You can find this information here, http://support.mstrust.org.uk/file/MSDecisionsWeb.pdf . And, do continue too raise any questions here. Forewarned is forearmed. Finally, please try to avoid getting stressed out about this. It does make things worse and your little girl needs you.

I was dx'd privately about a month ago and moved onto the NHS. Seen my MS nurse yesterday but have spoken to her on the phone a few times. I have been given a date for treatment on the 1st August for Lemtrada which I got a letter confirming it today. I guess its down to the post code lottery with the NHS. I also had a LP done last Monday and it takes weeks for the results to come back but I have still been given a treatment date and have still been dx'd with MS. The NHS works in strange ways at times.
