Excited to be partnering with Shift on women's health/MS
Hi,
I'm absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Shift.ms on a new video series about women with MS & how best to manage the challenges of menstruation, contraception, pregnancy & menopause - while also managing the disease.
A bit about me: I was diagnosed with RRMS in 2009 - the year Shift.ms was launched. Over the years, I've done lots of interviews for them & and I'm a huge fan.
I'm a journalist by training - and have written/spoken quite a lot about MS. In recent years, one issue has stood out for me. Even though women are 3x more likely to have MS vs men - our specific health needs have been largely overlooked. In research, big knowledge gaps remain. That's why I set up the Rachel Horne Prize for Women's Research in MS - to reward scientists looking into these issues.
And that's why I am so pleased Shift are launching this series. I know it will give women with MS the knowledge and confidence to make the best choices about their health.
Please feel free to leave any comments/suggestions. We are all in this together...
PS. I'm also over on Twitter - @RachelHorne19

Research, information and literature surrounding dmts, hormones and menstration is incredibly limited. Both men & women post all over social media forums about hormones & ms how dmt’s and other types of symptoms management therapies effect the regulation of hormones causing sexual dysfunction, mood management issues, continence issues, procreation or reproductive issues etc dmt’s often cause issues with reproduction cycles or the need for contraceptives that will. Dmt’s have triggered other hormone based conditions along side ms such as pcos, hirsutism, hair thinning, alopecia & baldness, early menopause, low sperm count, etc etc I’m thrilled that you have patronised women’s issues but men clearly have as many issues within this area too all of which can negatively effect well-being and is just as under researched and yet a primary medical intervention is steroids and the medications, therapies and dmt’s are blanket prescribed for both sexes. So thank you for your vision & proactiveness but sadly I think there is always more to done for us ALL. Good luck with everything and keep fighting!!!!! Think your amazing and thank you truly for your contribution 💪🍀🤞🤝👍✊😊
And just to clarify I’m not excluding anyone from the above comments either not all of us fit neatly into medical brackets or ‘defining categories’ but medical science far from recognises the need for individualisation of all let alone in its treatments 😳🙄🌈✊💪
