Sorry long post

So sorry this is going to be a long post but just wanted to offload on what has happened since Tuesday/Wednesday of this week. I know everyone’s experiences and symptoms are different but I wondered if anyone has experienced what’s happening at the moment. On Tuesday I got the results of my neck and top of the spine scan. It was all clear apart from a butterfly vertebrae, my neurologist said he would see my in clinic as planned on the 3/2. Wednesday I was at work and had a very bizarre episode where I fainted/passed out for a split second. I fell to the floor and got a very nasty bump to the back of my head. Being the stubborn individual that I am I refused to go to A&E and went home. I had no sickness but the headache and dizziness was horrid. I finally gave in and saw my GP Friday morning. I got the harsh word and they said they wanted me to go for a scan to rule out a bleed or a fracture, they also were concerned that the fainting episode could be linked to what’s going on neurologically. They spoke to the neurology department and an urgent referral was sent to them. I have a private neurologist so I called him and he agreed to see me the same day. So my neurologist thinks the fainting episode is not connected to possible MS and it’s just coincidental. He said he is pleased my spine and neck is clear from lesions because with my symptoms and what he has observed during examination he expected to see quite a few. He said due to this, the deterioration of my physical ability, weakness on the left side, the presence of 4 lesions on my brain and what he’s found during examination he is worried about Primary Progressive MS. He mentioned Ocrevus as a treatment option but said at the moment I don’t meet the criteria for it because I have not had a LP and I’ve only had 1 scan of both my brain and spine. He wants to re do my scan before LP, he said if the scan shows deterioration then a LP won’t be needed but if it doesn’t a LP will be needed. I was worried before but now I am more worried. I had thought I had RRMS and had prepared myself for that not PPMS 😢.

Sorry to hear this - this must be a big shock. My latest MRI scan showed I had an arachnoid cyst on my brain which was a big shock. You feel like you’re just getting used to one thing and then something else pops up. As difficult as it is, I would try not to worry about it too much as the diagnosis of PPMS hasn’t been made yet. If you do end up having a lumbar puncture, please don’t google all the horror stories! I had a lumbar puncture and just felt a sensation but it wasn’t painful. I developed a headache the day afterwards though and had to lie down - I would advise taking it easy for a day or two afterwards. Some people say that drinking caffeine helps. It’s such a lot for you to take in at the moment. I would say just try to focus on today - one day at a time, which is easier said than done. And know that you are not alone.
