AstraZeneca BBC report CVST
Hi everyone, I was watching the BBC news last night and a report came out about the blood clot issue circulating about the AstraZeneca vaccination. It mentioned that the unusual symptom is the low blood platelets level in the clots.
This is from an FT article:
The main condition causing alarm is called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), when blood forms clots in the veins that run from the brain, a potentially fatal complication. In the cases of concern, this has been combined with something called thrombocytopenia where a patient also presents abnormally low levels of platelets, resulting in heavy bleeding.
Also this: consistent with our experience that mild thrombocytopenia is not uncommon in MS patients.
Should we be concerned? Also I’ve read the Pfizer moderna vaccine has had clots in its tests but low blood platelet levels were not a factor. Soooo, looked further into it (at 5 o’clock this morning !) From what I’ve read the vaccine goes in, and platelet levels go bananas and form a clot in the brain.
All very depressing and I’m not an antivaxxer neurotic at all in fact I’m craving a near normal life to get out and about safely and also don’t want to be a scaremonger either so basically I’m looking for some peace of mind on information that others may have garnered from all the news circulating around the world about the risks involved to us MSers.
Also would love to hear from anyone who’s had the jab and their experience of any after effects. I’m sure I’m barking up the wrong tree with worry but just wanted some other thoughts.
I’m diagnosed 2015 on Ocrelizumab Dmt.

I just had my second Pfizer dose yesterday and all good so far. Just quite washed out (as I was with the first dose) but otherwise fine.
Hi :) thank you for sharing - I have had the exact same anxiety with the reports about the blood cloths so you are not the only one. I have actually had the first AstraZeneca jab (so has my partner). We both felt quite bad for the first 48h with high fever and other flu symptoms but more than a week after we are both feeling okay. We actually had the vaccine before the latest news reporting on the clots so when they came out we both found it quite stressful anxiety wise. We have managed to reduce stress levels by actually taking a break from the news and talking to health professionals (both been in contact with doctors) about it just to reassure us when we have had questions about potential unusual symptoms etc. I don’t know if this is helpful but we found it easier to talk with professionals plus people we know that have doctor friends rather than reading the news because it’s not that easy to gauge how worried to be from it.
