Now I understand!!

I was diagnosed as PPMS in February 2022. Any ailment I get is blamed on MS..... I walk my wee doggy every day wearing my FES and I was noticing that I kept going over on my right ankle. I spoke to my physiotherapist about it and she told me to look into an ankle support. So I started looking for an ankle brace. I bought 4 different types and they were all too bulky, too tight or just offered no support. They were all sent back. One of my MS buddies recommended I go to an Ankle, leg and foot clinic in Glasgow. I made an appointment and we (Chris and I) met with them a couple of weeks later. The lady was lovely and spoke to me and asked a few questions, then she asked me to walk down a short corridor so that she could see how I walked. We then went back into he room and she had a check of my feet and ankles with her hands. Turns out I have hyper mobility in both of my feet and ankles. She recommended a leg brace and orthotic insoles. They were not cheap but can you really put a price on walking?? The leg brace wraps around my leg with 2 straps and it is attached to a foot plate that goes into my shoe. After wearing it once or twice I noticed that the top strap was scraping my skin at the back of my knee. I bought a knee wrap and that problem was solved immediately. I cant drive with the new brace but thats ok as I will just have it in the car for when I need to use it. There is a stoney path that I walk Archie down nearly every day and I would usually walk on the grass verge so stop me from going over on my ankle. But.....the first time I walked down that path with my new leg brace on I walked on the path and I felt safe and secure. Problem solved, for once not Ms's fault :-)

I got an Ankle Foot Orthotic and it meant I couldn't drive a manual any more so I bought an automatic. Should have done it years ago, so much easier to drive and I can out with my AFO on

Just been referred by NHS to get a casting for an AFO. Can't be far to you was advised about same place in Glasgow by MS Revive. Trying NHS route at moment. Using boxia brace just now. Walk a slightly longer distance but want to increase that, I hope a good AFO is the answer
