Daily Briefing Covid-19 [30th Mar 2020]
Morning y'all (technically it is the afternoon but I am well behind and had planned this out for a morning post so y'all still get the American solidarity greeting).

The last loaf of bread was an unmitigated disaster and have been attending - with very limited success - to that. I am trying to salvage it into croutons so it is not an entire waste of flour. Flour being more out of stock than loo-roll it aims me too much to just toss it.

MS Stuff

My main observation is not that things are going back to normal, because what was normal is unlikely to ever be normal again.

WE NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE.

I have convinced, much to my own surprise, my neighbour to be interviewed. She is a GP (not mine, that is creepy). Whilst I have a few questions rolling around in my head it would be really fab if you'd post in the comments here anything that you'd like to know about how the changes to GPs affect you the MS patient? Preferably not general but really about how much your GP relationship and needs from primary care are in question. Now is the chance. I just ask Nicky (Dr Osboutne if you prefer) and she will answer them as best she can. If not she will be able to signpost the answers.

The Multiple Sclerosis Academy did a great session for patients the other day with @gpeps, the Top Banana from Shift, David Martin who is CEO of the MS Trust, someone from the MS Society and a few others. It is available to listen to later today here: https://multiplesclerosisacademy.org/courses/covid-19/

The tone now is rapidly moving to research with international registers being created. The organ transplant community who take immunosuppression to the next level making anyone on a DMT look like a mere beginner at it, are driving some specific stuff on immunosuppression.

Been starting to get my walking mojo back. Did 168km in Jan and then it tailed off. It is so easy to get out of practice. Did 9km today with Mrs S. As we need to do it from the door now I have the OS (Ordnance Survey) app on my phone. It is really helpful. Whether it is 1km or 100km it has it all there. I cannot describe how nice it is to get outside and just move the joints. We were designed to be on our feet, not sit. After even a few minutes up and moving it is invigorating.
-
I appreciate that for some a 1km walk is a big thing. Planning, effort, help etc. It is worth it, you will thank yourself. (I do love a good binge-watch too, not obsessed with exercise much)

Video calling. The new normal. We had our friends over for drinks the other night. We propped up an iPad on FaceTime and raised a glass. What we didn't realise we'd do was sending one another videos on WhatsApp and then watching them watch them. Here I must give a shout out to @highlander . He is a purveyor of many extremely poor taste and therefore very funny videos. Me I hear to you ask? Heavns no. Pure as the driven slush me.
-
Take it easy (try Zoom Meeting as it is free for 1:1, platform agnostic and I find the quality better than Skype)
-
Is it me or is it more fitting to sing Ring Around the Roses when washing hands than Happy Birthday which may be getting hopes up too much?

Aaron Boster has finished his new clinic. Check it out here http://tiny.cc/Tourdeboster

Mark Rober of the glitter bait package fame has made this excellent video on germ spread. All about Covid-19. It is fascinating https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5-dI74zxPg
