Advice please
Hi, I've been reading all the posts on here for a little while before I plucked up the courage to post. I've had really bad headaches for many years but I was constantly being told it was just stress/anxiety even though I felt there was more to it several doctors said the same I even took myself to a and e twice as the headaches were so bad and i'd begun to have other symptoms like heart palpitations, confusion, funny sensations in my body, again they said it was anxiety. Fast forward to just before Christmas 2021 I woke with a really sore back, leg tingling and a burning sensation down my right torso along with still the really bad headaches which they said was Sciatica but it wasn't improving and my right leg was constantly full of pins and needles so this time I persisted as it had gone on til now and I said I was sure something else was going on and asked please could they do a head scan as I knew what I could feel wasn't right. Finally they agreed and at last I was proven right. The mri showed scattered white matter plaques and demyelination in the perivascular location and they have suggested ms. I need a lumbar puncture test and full body mri to check my spine. I'm now worried sick i've had it all this time but i'm not very clued up on ms. Was anyone else told this? Does it sound familiar and if i've had it all this time is it likely to be really bad? I'm also worried that the heart palpitations i've had all this time aswel could mean i've heart disease as i've read ms can cause this? My doctors were very vague so i'm just left guessing everything at the moment but I guess til other tests are done they can't say much. I'm also pretty miffed they kept telling me I was ok I have been going for about 8yr with the headaches. Sorry for the long post but i'm left in limbo and googling things is worrying me more and now everytime I feel something i'm getting stressed out so I thought i'd come on here and hear from people who know more about this. Thankyou for reading this long rant
Hey, just read your post and you are not alone in all of this as I have been through similar things with my ms. If you ever want to chat, vent or anything feel free to DM me, I think I have sent you a message previously. Rob x
Hi. Sounds like you are going through a long diagnoses journey. Well done for persevering over several years. Diagnosis can be long and stressful. I guess that you are now going through diagnosis, which will probably mean jumping through hoops. Unfortunately there is no quick way to diagnosis. Dr Aaron Boster, an American neurologist has posted some YouTube videos about getting diagnosed. If you want to find out what the medical criteria are 🤷♀️. Some of the information is not applicable in UK. Some MS charities can be super supportive, and provide lots of information. All the best.
