Is occipital neuralgia common with MS

Hi everyone, I am new to this website although been reading it on and off for some time. I have RRMS diagnosed 17 years not on any DMT and have been doing ok. But the last few years had many niggles and just wandering if either it’s progressing or I am neurotic. Anyway my question is to see if any of you suffer with occipital neuralgia and if this is a symptom of possible relapse. Recently I have been getting cramping on the right side of my neck and severe burning pain in the base of skull. It could be a tense neck thing but I don’t want to be complacent and not get it checked if it is something that I should be concerned about. I don’t have easy access to MS nurses and I doubt they even know who I am and I only see my neuro doctor every 2 years. Just thought this community might be able to help before I bother them. Thank you.

Hi @rainbowskies , Any type of Neuralgia can be symptomatic of MS. But, we also have to be cognisant to the fact that we can have other conditions/problems as well. Occipital Neuralgia does get a mention in this article:= https://www.mstrust.org.uk/a-z/trigeminal-neuralgia You're right, it is wise not to be complacent, so it is wise to have these things checked out. So, now might be the right time to get to know your MS Nurse. You should be able to find their contact details here :- https://www.mstrust.org.uk/understanding-ms/living-ms/map-ms-services Do come back and let us know how you get on.
