My Story

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself. 😊 I’m Roxanne and live with my daughter and partner is home of a weekend (RAF). I was diagnosed last October with relapsing, remitting MS after about 8 months of tests and uncertainty, fearing I was either having a stroke or had some form of tumour due to severity of headaches and numbness I was experiencing. MRIs and lumbar punctures finally ruled those out and concluded MS. I am currently taking Tecfidera medication twice a day and not a big fan so far. The hot flushes are a pain in the ass especially when I work from home and have calls a lot. People are used to seeing a tomato on screen now 🥲 and I just feel constantly bloated which isn’t good either. I feel fine most days but have my moments like last night for example. I went for a run (I used to be a great runner until relapses started happening) I am slowly getting back into it but got 1 km in and went flying last night and injured both knees. This is down to being quite off balance like I can’t even walk in a straight line and bump into everything so running probably isn’t a good idea. I feel like I can’t breathe sometimes (have had MS hug symptoms recently where my chest, ribs and stomach just feel really tight) So I’m a bit sad I might have to find an alternate exercise for the time being. I have a long drive to Scotland coming up next week for a family holiday so I am a little nervous as it will require a lot of walking so expecting a few wobbles but still should be fun. I am currently trying to not live in fear of relapses happening, taking it a day at a time and just making sure I don’t let this condition get in the way of mine or my families happiness. This is new to me and I don’t usually like talking much about it but I feel a bit lighter now! 🙂 X

Hi @Rox-1994. Welcome to the group. Sounds like you have had a tough time (going through diagnosis always is). I must admit I have given up running because of falls and overheating. Walking can still be enjoyable, but I have to think more about toileting and the ground (is it at an incline, is it stoney, muddy, too close to a busy road etc etc 🥱 ). Everything seems like a major military movement 😆. Welcome 🤗

Thanks so much @Clary ! To be honest after my fall last night I did enjoy my walk back home it’s just as peaceful as running minus the accidents! It really is you’ve got to think of all these things now for days out even if it’s just a trip to the shops x
