Scuba diving with MS
I've read a lot of conflicting opinions about scuba diving with MS. I am an experience diver and was diagnosed very recently, will be starting DMDs (tecfidera) soon.
Post pandemic (can't dive ATM anyway!) I want to know the options available to me - can I find a Dr to write a letter saying I'm fit to dive? Can I find an insurance company that will cover me?
From what I've read, the risks are that some symptoms of scuba related problems (DCS) overlap with some MS symptoms so they need to be able to know you can distinguish the two? I'm currently otherwise healthy, no ongoing mobility issues, and I want something to look forward to. However I don't want to have hope if this is unrealistic.
@Roseanna, you've probably seen this :- http://www.ukdmc.org/medical-conditions/multiple-sclerosis/ Finding Doctors who will pass you fit to dive will be easier than finding an insurance company to cover you! They'll probably insist on exclusions and/or load the premium. If you're in good shape and good health, I'd like to think there would be no problem.......
In case anyone else finds this post and is interested, I have been diving annually post diagnosis with no issues! Funny how worried I was when I first got diagnosed compared to 5 years on.
