COVID Vaccine/Ocrevus

Hi folx, I was diagnosed in with RRMS in October 2020 - still recovering but essentially I woke up partially blind, altered/numbed sensation in left side of my body and struggled to walk due to balance issues. I have Diabetes (T2) and asthma and after speaking with my Consultant, MS Nurse and GP - all have agreed that I should be in the priority list for the vaccine so I can begin treatment ASAP. Unfortunately, with Xmas and New Year, everyone is unavailable now - after speaking with my GP, I've been told they have no control over who has the vaccine. So with being told I need treatment for my MS ASAP, and then the delay with the vaccine - I have no one to turn to. Feeling anxious as I want to treat my MS to avoid a relapse that could become permanent and also want to have the COVID vaccine as like.. you know, I don't want to die, I definitely would not survive it. Is anyone else having this issue at all? Or maybe knows about how to contact someone to have the vaccine arranged ASAP?

Hello @humira, yes this is certainly a nightmare time for everyone. Us vulnerable folk are unfortunately top of the list, although given some priority. The guidelines are pretty rigid with the vaccine I think. Ocrevus is one of the only DMDs to have a slightly reduced rate of efficacy with the virus, and also there are guidelines around the infusion timings. You can find these on the MS Society website. All things considered, you might want to investigate one of the other DMDs which wouldn't interfere with a vaccine. Ocrevus requires more planning, as it involves infusions. Early in the pandemic, for this reason, Ocrevus was delayed in the UK as they couldn't guarantee hospital spaces, although I think they're currently all on track. To reassure you, experts don't believe that having MS will be more problematic that for any other personal though I get that your epilepsy and asthma complicates things. It sounds crazy, but over-stressing has a real effect on MS, so try hard to keep balanced with your stress levels. Easier said than done, I know! Have you had a normal flu jab yet, that's highly recommended.....
