Anti-viral Treatments for COVID; UK
Hi,
This is information sent to me by the MS Society.org about the current status of those living in the UK and with a diagnosis of MS and receiving the option of rapid anti-viral should you get a positive COVID test. You do not need to have symptoms to be referred and assessed by a clinician.
Those of you diagnosed with MS since 15th November 2021, that you may not be on the national register. This is needed to ensure that you can receive anti-virals following a positive Lateral Flow Test (you will be asked to also do a PCR but CAN start anti-virals BEFORE the PCR test).
A diagnosis of MS entitles you to the option for rapid anti-viral treatment.
However, there is also a need to check and ask your consultant/GP to put you on the register. The odds are that if you haven't had any text, email or letter about this then you are probably not on the register.
I personally found that the 911 service knew nothing about this, although there is clear advice on the government website.
Hope this helps anyone struggling to work through this. Thanks to MS society.org for clarifying this.
I finished my 5 day course of Paxlovid which is an antiviral treatment for COVID. I received a call from a dedicated team after my positive PCR, and they sent a private courier to my house so I got it within 12hrs of my positive PCR result.
@happyhen Thank you for sharing guidance. It's important to check if we've received no message or been sent a PCR test because many who were diagnosed before as well as those after November 21 are likely not on the register... there's so much guidance sent to GP's and consultants, let alone inevitable Covid messaging fatigue for healthcare professionals that inevitably some MS teams and GP practices won't have gotted round to seeing the message or adding all their MS patients to the register..
