Pilates has improved my core strength & ability to walk

I spent 20 years in the US Navy. I had a passion for exercise and distance running. Before I retired in 1995 I became aware of new difficulty running and began to have developing eye problems. In 2002 I was finally diagnosed to have Relapsing / Remitting MS. By then I was an Engineering Manager for a Semiconductor company. My MS worsened and I didn’t have time to exercise. I ate out a lot. I retired in 2019 and my MS was now diagnosed to be Secondary Progressive MS. I was overweight, off balance and unable to climb stairs. I was dependent on a cane to walk and even then it was difficult and painful. I was taken off all my MS medication. They thought at my age, then near 60, the treatments were going to be too hard on me. February 2020 my wife and I went on a Keto diet because I weighed 238 lbs. Turns out it is also an anti inflammatory diet and I did well enough to stop taking the harsh medication I had been on for so many years. In February 2021 I came into a Club Pilates I tried the intro class joined and convinced my wife to join with me. I’ve always loved to exercise, but because of the MS, any previous attempt my body would overheat and I would have spasms. But finally, with Pilates I was able to exercise without overheating. I got stronger and felt better as I improved my core strength. I didn’t overheat and I believe the stretching made it possible for me to exercise. It’s the best thing I have done for my health in a long time. As my core improved I began relying less on my cane and can now walk without one. I can do things around the house and the yard that I haven’t been able to do in a long time. I now no longer use a cane or aide to walk. My son and I went fishing in Alaska and I didn’t use my cane. He mentioned that he didn’t remember me not using something to walk. I am enjoying the ability to consistently work out similar to my pre MS and during military service. I have pushed my self. To date I have completed > 130 classes. I completed the 30 day challenge. I now weigh 175, so that’s a loss of more than 60 pounds. I do core training daily in addition to my Pilates. My wife is a veteran as well and has done great too. She had never cared for exercise. While in the service she did what was required for fitness. But, now she has taken a few classes each week since we started Pilates. In > 33 years of marriage I have had never known her to continue with an exercise program. I believe Pilates is a great fitness program. It fits into our schedule. I still have MS but the added strength and balance aides in dealing with MS. Our desire to exercise isn’t the same. But, both of us get a lot out of it.
