Fresh Start

As someone who’s lived a pretty sedentary life for the last decade - sitting at my desk and working 8+ hours a day and then watching TV at night, eating quick, processed food and grabbing fast calorie laden snacks to keep me going. Drinking far too much coffee and no water. I always thought that whilst I was young and healthy and could get away with it, then I would deal with it when I needed to. Now my poor body struggles to walk upstairs some days and I’ve gained a lot of weight so it’s time to reassess my lifestyle and do what I can to feel better, even if it’s just mentally. Last week, my husband and I booked a 10 day holiday in Tenerife next July to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and I don’t want to go looking as big as I am now so it’s a massive incentive to lose a few pounds, get healthier and feel better about myself. I’m starting off slowly, so I don’t want to do too much at once and fail, so I am aiming for 10 minutes of exercise per day, five days a week. The exercise can be a yoga class, which is what I did this morning or a walk, and on the days when I am physically, unable to do either than 10 minutes of mindfulness or stretching. I’m also trying to drink 1 litre of water per day and I’ll increase this once 1 litre becomes an easy habit. I lost my biggest client earlier this week, so I’m now down from working 50+ hours a week to 5 as of the 1st April. I know that all of this spare time means that the old me would sit in the house and dwell on all the bad stuff so I’m trying to focus my energy on self care whilst I figure out my next move 💪

You’re doing the right thing. I did the same following diagnosis although I still slip into an unhealthy way of eating now and then… YouTube has lots of good videos for days you don’t feel like leaving the house. Lucy Wyndham Reid has lots of low impact walking and aerobic ones to start you off!
