Avonex
Hi All! Is anybody really struggling with Avonex? Side effects and actually doing the injection? For the last few months I have sat in tears every injection night and having a panic attack trying to do it. Last night it was so bad I just couldn't do it. I've tried getting someone else to do it and also had counselling, nothing has helped. The side effects also really floor me, I am still trying to go about my normal life the day after injection but feel ill.
I called my MS nurse this morning who thinks I should possibly change treatment but the options are Tecfideria and Aubagio. I'm 26 with no kids and plan on having them in the future so these options sort of limit me, especially Aubagio as mu nurse said it’s still in your system 5 years after coming off it. I just don't know what to do.
Has anybody experienced this? I feel quite lost atm.
@meganquinn97 Change it. I had the same problem, I really don't like needles, even with the epi pen and ended up on Gilenya. Speak to your neurologist about your DMT, especially if planning on starting a family. You may have to come off your DMT before trying to get pregnant but they should better placed than me to advise you.
Totally. I lasted on Avonex for 12 weeks. I managed to swap, but it took me another 9 months. That’s how long it took to see my neurologist. It was covid at the time. I would definitely recommend switching if you are unhappy with Avonex. There are other options and if you plan to have a baby I totally recommend speaking with your clinician. All the best.
