Mayo Clinic visit experience

Many of you may recall some of my posts — where I live in the USA even with a *stat* referral from my PCP would have taken seven months to see a neurologist. Mayo Clinic took my appt request and scheduled me to be there 9 days after they called me! I had never been. I stayed at the Kahler Grand which is connected via subway and skywalk. I never stepped outside unless I wanted to and was five minutes away from all my appointments. They offer military discounts as well as Mayo patient discounts. They have a restaurant on-site and a Starbucks too — although I brought water and coconut water and some bone broth and a few other easy to eat snacks (all blend because that’s all I could stomach those days). My room had a microwave and a mini fridge. I had a neurologist appt the first day there he said I looked healthy. (Thanks?) Mri of brain clear. Complete blood panel — good Emg clear Fat aspirate procedure (biopsy) clear — although it did point a weak positive for rheumatoid arthritis. Mri of spine pending because they are understaffed and I decided to do it locally so I wouldn’t have to travel back to Rochester. My symptoms have not gone away. I’m on a low saturated fat diet No gluten No dairy No caffeine No alcohol Supplements: biotin, b12, vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, turmeric, omega 3, and about to start ALA. Symptoms in the beginning (lasting July - November): Twitching Zap sensation from lower back to feet calves tight (as they are stiff and can’t relax — it hurts!) Ear infection like-pain (trigeminal neuralgia) Random headaches Itchy scalp Dry and sore corner of left eye (a kaleidoscopic like vision migraine once) Crawling sensation on head Internal shakes Then it got better: but to today Twitches continued: back, temple, glute, legs, foot…. Crawling sensation on scalp on and off Eye soreness (left eye pain) Back pain and still leg muscle pain But the twitches are driving me INSANE. We are not ruling anything out until my spinal mri but it just feel like my body is off. I’ve always been active and healthy — never had any health issues — of course this triggers anxiety because from feeling great to feeling ten symptoms at once is VERY overwhelming. I did have some trauma and stress this year: my dad passed tragically in a car accident while on duty. My husband left for military service for a year (not back until next fall) We moved across the country I took over as national director of a nonprofit that serves the whole country and its a LOT (while being on grad school and raising a toddler). Losing my dad was the hardest and while I know this can be a mix of things I don’t think the root is psychological (I do think my emotional health combined with stress exacerbates it all)…. Moral of the story: if you can go to Mayo. Way faster than waiting forever for referrals and tests. While I have not found the answer to my questions I feel slightly better — or maybe I’m just learning to live and getting used to my new normal (which is feeling off).
