COVID-19 (Omicron) with MS

Hi, I would like to share my experience with catching Omicron and what to expect. I’m 34, ex smoker (16 years) with MS using Avonex and vaccinated 3 times. Days leading up to it: My 7 year old came out with it on Saturday, my wife & 12 year old Monday, my 15 year old & then me and my 8 year old. The morning of the positive test: I woke up with a scratchy throat so I did a test which came back positive. Later that day I started getting headaches and not being able to concentrate on more than one thing. After doing a LFT I did a PCR and sent it off. Day 2: I woke up with the scratchy throat, headache and now a congestion feeling in my nose. My PCR results came back via email early morning. I called my GP and asked about the next steps for getting the antiviral medicine and they got in touch with them for me. I received a phone call asking about my symptoms and I was prescribed Molnupiravir which was being delivered Saturday (next day). I said to my wife “my Avonex injection is still worse than this!” she was shocked and could finally have something to relate to. My skin and joints started to hurt later in the day. Day 3: The antiviral medicine arrived around 10am and I started taking the straight away. They caused worsened headaches like when my injection Avonex kicks in about 6 hours after having it done. The congested feeling was getting worse as well, that’s when I said to my wife “this is how my injection feels now, headaches sore muscle and aches & pains but without the sinuses issues.” Day 4: The sore throat has started to calm down and likewise with the aches & pains but the congestion in my nose is like sinusitis. I could hardly concentrate on anything a would sleep most of the day. Day 5: the storm started to brake and the feeling was like the morning after my injection where I would ache a little bit but I had a headache on top of it because of the antiviral medicine. Day 6: Symptoms are calming down and my nose is starting to feel less pressure and I’m able to breathe through one of them after laying on my side. The headache from the antiviral is still there but I’m feeling better. Day 7: I did a LFT and that was still positive. The headache still persisting to be a problem but wasn’t to bad. I was still confused when watching something and someone asked me a question, I would lose track of what was going on. Day 8: LFT was Positive still and the congestion had basically cleared up. I had the headache from the antiviral medicine but I was able to move a little bit easier. Day 9: LFT was fainter so I was hopeful that I was almost cleared of it. I think I had finished my antiviral medicine by now but still had a little headache. Day 10: LFT was very faint. I felt almost normal (my normal with my MS). I was symptom free and all my household had tested negative now. I didn’t test on day 11 because apparently you aren’t contagious anymore. I was due on Tuesday for my Avonex injection so I did a LFT which came back very clear positive so I had to cancel my appointment and isolate again. I tested the next 2 days and they were both negative which leads me to today. I finally got my injection this morning and I said to my Wife “right at 12:00 I’m going to have covid symptoms and by later feel like day 3” she laughed and said “very funny, not!”. I hope this helps those that might still be scared of catching Covid which is understandable and I aim this as a positive best case scenario. I am double vaccinated and had my booster and other than MS and hip replacement, I struggle with my walking and fatigue so I’m quite limited anyway. Stay safe and get vaccinated because I feel that is why (along with the antiviral’s) I wasn’t as bad as I could have been with it.

Glad that you're ok. My symptoms were completely different, just achy, tired and horrible stomach cramps. I only tested because my son had flu like symptoms, it was losing my smell and taste that I hated but it's back now. I really do think it depends on the individual, as to how they react to it.

Thankyou for your post. I have just tested positive. Where are you located? I'm in Australia
