Tecfidera side effects advice

Hey, I’ve been on tecfidera now for nearly 3 years. It’s worked well for me as I’ve had no further relapses but I sometimes get an annoying side effect which is happening more often now. I get extreme fatigue and a runny nose for about an hour or two a couple of hours after my morning tablet. It doesn’t matter what I eat with it I’ll still get it, I’ve tried antihistamines and that sometimes helps but I’m at the point now that I want to stop taking it. I tried talking to my neuro about it and he said the fatigue is a symptom of MS which I know but I feel the tecfidera is making it worse. It doesn’t happen if I miss my morning dose which I sometimes do if I have a big day planned. My white blood cell count also dropped recently so not sure if that has a connection, it is starting to go back up. Has anyone else struggled with this and found a solution? I don’t want to change meds if I can help it.

@MissT Hi I've been using tec for 3 years now and I get a runny as well. One plus point is I've never had blocked sinuses which is worse for me. I've always got a packet of Kleenex in my pocket. As for the fatigue it's MS that causes it. From personal experience don't come on and off them if you can help it. It plays havoc with your bowels... Other than that, all my MRIs have shown no further progression. Small price to pay for not getting any worse I suppose. At least you know your not the only one.. All the best.

Hi @MissT, I get a runny nose too in the evenings but doesn't last long. Now you've written this, I'm going to check if my fatigue lines up with Tec use; you know how it is, you just get on with life and often don't notice the small things. I've been taking for 4 years, no new lesions so happy to continue :-)
