Caregivers

As a person who lives with a chronic and incurable disease (multiple sclerosis) and deals with all the psychological effects this situation brings into my life and my caregiver’s life, I have long been aware of the strain caregivers are under. I suspect that CBT would be a useful tool to teach caregivers, along with patients. It must be heart-wrenching to watch someone you love struggle everyday to complete simple tasks. I found a study online which concluded that CBT is an effective tool for reducing caregiver depression, anxiety, stress and dysfunctional thoughts. The study examined the caregivers of people with dementia (Kwon, Ahn et.al. 2017), but I suspect the concept would work equally well for caregivers of patients with other disorders.

Thank you for sharing this information. I think dealing with MS can be really difficult for caregivers as well as the individual. I will look into CBT.
