Diagnosed after childbirth

Hi everyone, I am very new to this.... I was diagnosed back in October, four days after giving birth to my first child. I had no symptoms only double vision in August which they diagnosed as a small stroke. After giving birth, my left leg went numb for a few hours. I thought it was down to childbirth but was diagnosed with MS following an MRI and lumbar puncture. I went to see a neurologist about six weeks later. He was awful. He prescribed Betaferon as I was breastfeeding. He told me to take the full dose once a day. I reacted very badly and found out that I should have been taking a smaller dose every other day and working my way up to a full dose. This was a hard few weeks especially with a newborn in the house. I saw a new neurologist a few weeks ago and he was great. He is giving me until the end of March to finish breastfeeding and then wants me to start a DMT. He has mentioned Tecfidera. I am very apprehensive about starting treatment as I did not have a good experience with Betaferon. I also feel really good at the moment and don't want to take medication that will make me feel worse. Any advice on starting treatment would be welcome. Even some encouragement would be great! Thanks and sorry about the long post! Gillian

@GillyMoore , I am sorry that the MonSter came along just as you were celebrating one of the happiest occasions of your life. Whether to start treatment is a very personal decision. You'll never know whether your decision is the right one, you just hope you don't have any regrets in the future. There are a variety of treatments now available from injectables through oral treatments and onto infusions. The following might help you contemplate a decision :- https://mstrust.org.uk/about-ms/ms-treatments/ms-decisions-aid For the moment, enjoy your new baby and look after yourself.

@stumbler Thank you so much for your reply. It was very difficult and to be honest, I think I was in denial up until the end of the year. I will check out your link for sure. Lots to think about. My family are pushing me to start treatment and I can see where they're coming from. Anyway, thanks again! Mind yourself! Gillian
