Treatment

I've always been terrified of needles/injections. So it's not strange to overthink everything before injecting myself with Avonex. I've skipped a few injections simply because I am terrified of them. Anyone have good tips on how to control this dear of mine?
@Clary

Hi. I was prescribed Avonex. I took it for about 12 weeks. At the start I didn’t think I was needle phobic. By the end I really struggled. Strange thing was I didn’t think it hurt. However, I found it super hard. Can you go to your neurologist and try something else? My nurse offered plegridy. I said no because I didn’t want an injection. I waited 5 months to see my neurologist. Then another 4months before I started a new DMT. It was a really difficult wait. Worth it, now. Speak to your team, if you need a change. There are lots of DMTs on the market. Don’t suffer. Good luck.

I feel your pain and anxiety. I hate needles, so when I was prescribed Avonex and was shown how to self inject using the epi pen, my heart sank. You could see if someone else can do it for you, contact your local doctor and see if a nurse can do it for you, or as already suggested, move onto something else. I'm now on a daily tablet (Gilenya (fingolimod)). Speak to your healthcare team and ask to change to something that doesn't involve a needle.
