Dietary Research

Hi all, I'm looking at producing a document to layout all the dietary options that have been researched and documents for and against. Making it easy to understand but also well researched and linked to documents to back up points made etc. I figure that I want to read and educate myself but be able to document said information so it may help others. My main issue is where to get research papers from? My mum (a nurse) is trying to get me access to the UK's online journal system but nothing as yet, but research happens world wide and any access to other countries research would help greatly. Any help?

I'm sorry I don't have any knowledge on the dietary research but I am very interested myself in looking in to this! - Trouble with diet for pharmaceutical companies there is no money to be made from the results so unfortunately there hasn't been enough research!... I personally think that the results could be great improvements in MS if dedicated, it could also take months to notice results and then maybe years for any recovery so patience is massively needed... At the mo I am following "The MS recovery diet" (no gluten, no dairy, no eggs, no legumes)... Oh boy is it difficult at times but I am being patient... I wanna give it a try as a few years down the line as progression happens I don't wanna look back and wish I had tried if you know what I mean... At least I know I tried and "boring foods are ok but MS isn't ok" is what I tell myself when I dream about pizza... I have been doing this diet for a couple of weeks now and no massive changes but I do feel a bit lighter on my feet after a shower - usually I can hardly lift my leg over the bath to climb out, then I have to sit down and recover for a while and then have to drag my legs which feel like ton weights up the stairs to my room but the last week I have not had to sit down straight after and I can just walk upstairs, my legs still feel very heavy and my right foot still numbs up but it isn't as heavy or numb so I am sticking with this diet in the hope it is doing something.... They talk about drug trials... I wanna be involved in a diet trial!!!! Good luck with your research in to finding research and look forward to hearing about any info you find out! Good luck xxx

@JustJones

I'm following this research with interest... http://journals.cambridge.org/download.php?file=%2FPNS%2FPNS67_OCE1%2FS0029665108006307a.pdf&code=af2767e5ac308cc91e3a1a9fe14560df http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/589464_5 If you haven't already, you should also have a read of Treating Multiple Sclerosis Naturally, by Judy Graham. There's sections on many different dietary based advice and support... some of which kind of conflict with each other but she's telling you what people have tried and how it worked for them. this is an updated version of an older book. You can read a review of it here: http://www.ms-uk.org/index.cfm/bookreviews You can read a good chunk of it on Amazon too.... I did that before i bought a copy. I've got a lot from reading it. i'm sure you will have seen it but the "overcoming MS" website has lots of info on their particular slant on dietary advice and lots of evidence to back up their way of thinking... they share a lot on their twitter feed and always link to scholarly articles as they are published. http://www.overcomingmultiplesclerosis.org/Recovery-Program/Program-Overview/ www.MS-UK.org has lots of info on the Best Bet diet, they have loads of factsheets/booklets and if you poke around their website you'll also find lots of research info. Their staff are on the end of the telephone if you wanted to talk to them about accessing research etc... I'm sure they'd give some guidance. As would the other big MS charities i reckon.... MS-Trust and MS Society both support and invest in research... So will be up to date on anything relevant and interesting.
