New here. 14 years of Limbo.

Hello! I just joined today. I haven’t been on a forum since I was pregnant with my first child 15 years ago. Shortly after her birth, my health problems began. It started with vertigo (diagnosed as viral labrynthitis), fatigue and headaches. I had an MRI done within a year of onset and though a few white spots were seen, MS was ruled out. I continued to have flares and then new symptoms; nerve pain in my left arm, chronic neck and shoulder pain, heat and cold intolerance, pelvic floor dysfunction...When I was pregnant with my second child, all symptoms magically disappeared for all 9 months! Then, in the last two years, the symptoms have gotten worse and the flares more frequent. I now have numbness in my hands that comes and goes, tiny pinprick sensations, hyperreflexia, the “hug” (which actually led to my gallbladder being removed two years ago!). So I recently sought out a new neurologist and she immediately agreed we should re-evaluate for MS. I had another MRI which showed non-specific white spots, but enough for her to then order a lumbar puncture, which I am now recovering from six days later (terrible back pain and pressure in head and neck). I should get my answer next week and to be totally honest, I am hoping for diagnosis and dreading hearing the tests were negative! This condition has dramatically effected my life and relationships. I am laden with guilt over not being a proper mother to my girls and putting too much responsibility (and being a burden) on my husband. I spend way too much of my life in bed and missing life. I just want to be told I have a condition and can start treatment, rather than feeling I must be crazy!

Hello @pnwartis, what a nightmare for you, glad you found a good neurologist. Yes, you just need clarity now. Lots of people have stories similar to yours on this site. And oh, that post-lumbar headache! If it is MS, the LP will give a definitive answer next week. If not, well,, at least that’s one thing ruled out. Stay strong, do nice things this week to take your mind off it. Please let us know how it goes. If it is MS, you will have lots of support and advice on this site. Good luck, have fun with your kiddies x

Hi @pnwartis, feel for you. I was admitted into Charing X hospital 2015 and finally diagnosed in 2017 it was the worst 2 years of my life, not feeling well and knowing something was not right albeit the people who should have had the answers did not. Finally a second opinion, MRI and LP hit the spot and diagnoses was given. I echo Vixen above and wish you well keep in touch
