I've lost my job after MS absence
I had a bad relapse recently and lost 80% of vision in one eye. I was in my trial period in a new job and my employer said they could not pay me sick leave and they would like me to continue on a self-employed basis or 'say goodbye'. When I asked for reasonable adjustments to be made, they 'redid' my review and gave me a further 6 weeks to 'prove myself'. I had to take further certified time off but, because of this, they said I would no longer be able to acheive the targets in timescale and sacked me! Has anyone any similar experiences? Although I have taken legal advice through the Disability Law Service (who I have to say have been so helpful), the stress of taking action is bringing on symptoms and I don't know what to do...
Sue, I am sorry that you've had to go through all this at the same time. Having a relapse is bad enough, but having a new employer just upping the stress levels had made it intolerable. I've always wondered where the law sits when MS comes into play when you've just started a new job. It's good that you have the DLS to progress this issue for you. But, for you, the priority must be for you to look after yourself. Let the situation with that job go and let the DLS fight that one for you.
Thanks for your reply. I am doing just that - trying to look after myself and letting the DLS fight my corner. I appreciate your reply and am so glad I have found this site :) S
