Infusion - what’s the deal on the day

So, I have my dates for my first lot of ocrevus at the end of August and start of September. What happens on the days? Am I best taking someone with me? Will I be ok to drive afterwards?
@napes

Here’s a run down of my experience on infusion day. Need bloods taken within the week before to check for any underlying infections. I have to phone the neurology ward at 8am on the day to check it’s going ahead. Normally asked to arrive for 9/9:30am. Go through the checklist and get settled in. Get cannula in and then pre-meds (steroid injection, paracetamol and antihistamine tablet). Wait half hour or so then Ocrevus is hooked up. I’m lucky and have never had any sort of reaction (been on it since June 2021) and I’m now on the fast rate, but the first two half doses won’t be. They don’t advise driving incase you have a reaction, I did drive the first few times, but now I get a lift as it can be a long and tiring day. You will get your temperature, BP and oxygen levels checked every half hour and if you’re okay they can speed up the infusion rate. Saw an article on Monday that England, Wales and Northern Ireland have just approved an injection option for Ocrevus that only takes 10mins! I’m in Scotland so no use to me yet but might be worth asking about when you’re in. Good luck

@Staceyc

thank you so much! that really helps!! I’m yet to see my MS nurse and have to go and sign the consent form in about a week for the treatment so guess I can ask the questions then but I’m impatient and like to know straight away.
