First try on modafinil and fatigue

Hey everyone! I’ve been having a lot of issues with fatigue lately and I took my first dose of Modafinil last weekend. Only when I took it it didn’t help energize me at all it made me slightly drowsy for an hour and then I just felt awful and almost flu like for the rest of the day and then I couldn’t sleep at all that night (racing thoughts and tossing and turning). I was too nervous to try again but I’d like to. I’m just wondering if anyone else has had a similar first experience and if it’s something I should push through and try again? Or if this means that this drug isn’t for me. I’ve always had fatigue feel more in my body and brain and less like an actual need to sleep. A tiredness like when you have the flu really bad and everything is heavy and hard to do but not actually that I can’t keep awake. I’m worried this means since Modafinil is just a stimulant to keep you awake it won’t work for me at all? If anyone could share their thoughts or experiences I’d appreciate it :)

Hi, I tried Modafinil three years ago for uncontrollable fatigue. It gave me terribly flu like symptoms, I was freezing cold, and my muscles were very tender. The first dose was amazing, it all went downhill for me after that. I had to fight to change it as the doctors here felt it was the new “wonder” drug. They had never heard of such side effects. In the end I was moved to Ritalin which suits me much better. Maybe try a few days of it, and then if it doesn’t improve, report back ASAP to your neurologist? Best of luck x
