Pacing

Hi, this term has been used repeatedly with me over the years, but the meaning thereof in practical terms escapes me. I would love if anyone can advise how they "paced" themselves in their MS recoveries, whether it's post a relapse, an injury, treatment, anything whatsoever... I am aware of the old adage of "listening to your body", but quite how that is interpreted and applied, I still cannot manage after all these years. I must be seriously deranged, as I simply CANNOT pace myself. The endorphins start raging and I push through the pain, oblivious to it, only then unable to walk for the next 3 days. I am too obsessed with exercise and cannot "see the wood for the trees". It is not as though I can even manage a huge amount, but even then I exceed my limits habitually. I literally seem to require a lobotomy to manage this issue. Anyone able to share a story of overcoming physical injury etc by pacing and being sensible? Sensible in relation to this issue, is not within my vocabulary!

@monica2015 , try replacing the word "pacing" with word "moderate" - it makes it sound less intensive. But, that what you need to do. The phrase, "no pain, no gain" has been misheard and misconstrued for ages. It should be, "no pain, no brain"! But, isn't one way to fitness the philosophy of little and often? The harder you push yourself, the more your MS will hate you. Find the balance, where you can live in harmony with your MS. ;)

Hi @monica2015. I don't pace either! If I listened to my body I would never get up!! So I too push through like a maniac until I crash! I also try to convince myself that all my issues are "imaginary"! Until I hit rick bottom. I am my own worst enemy. So, no sensible advise can be offered by moi!! ?
