Want to start a family but absolutely FRIGHTENED...

Hi all, I’ve had these thoughts swirling in my head since my diagnosis in 2019 however they are much more prominent now that I’ve just gotten married and starting a family has gotten that one step closer. I am hoping I can get some real life advice/ experience from others who have kids. My main issue is my body does not deal with lack of sleep very well. My legs get all painy and stabby and I’m waddling like a duck! I know a big thing of parenthood especially at the start is lack of sleep and it just really frightens me that we won’t be able to do it or that it’s selfish to bring a kid into the world when I might not be able to give it my all! I know this will sound daft to most of you but any advice is appreciated! 🙈

@MelvieMoon , every woman is apprehensive about motherhood and whether they will cope. It is an apprehension which is successfully managed in all cases. So do what your body and instincts tell you. I'm sure the Mums within the membership of this Forum will be along soon, to tell you the same.

Hey @MelvieMoon , I completely understand your reservations about having a family. I was officially diagnosed right after my second boy. Right now they are 4 & 7, and it would be an understatement to say they have way more energy than me. I’m on disability right now and my wife is back to work; but in all honesty raising two small children is more work then what I was doing before. I’m am so easily fatigued right now, as I’m sure everyone here is, so to try and keep up with just the everyday routine is a massive endeavour all on its own. Also, insomnia goes hand in hand with MS, and I haven’t slept properly for years now. It’s funny what the human body can handle though, as I’ve almost become a functional zombie.. I’m not trying to scare you out of having a family, because my boys are my absolute greatest achievement, and I wouldn’t change anything.
