Pregnancy

Hi I found out yesterday that I am 5 weeks pregnant and we are very excited but a little nervous. I am currently on Copaxone and doing very well. My consultant spoke with us about copaxone and pregnancy when we discussed trying for a baby (December 2017) and he told me to stay on copaxone throughout my pregnancy if I did fall pregnant. Today I spoke with my copaxone nurse and she said that I needed to check that again and to discontinue until I had spoken with my consultant again. Has anyone remained on copaxone during their pregnancy? All advice welcome. Thank you

Hi @dinocorn, Massive congratulations on your pregnancy!! I haven't been on Copaxone through a pregnancy (not ever had pregnancy, nor yet started my meds, as I have only just been diagnosed in April), but the main reason I am going on to Copaxone (rather than any of the other meds) was because me and my partner are considering trying for children and both my neurologist and MS Nurse said that it was really the only medication that you can take prior to getting pregnant and throughout pregnancy. Apparently (as per my MS Nurse 2 weeks ago) Copaxone has only quite recently been approved for use during pregnancy, as the studies undertaken have not shown any harmful effects, so that may be why you are getting conflicting information. Do you have a telephone number or email address for your consultant? Maybe you could get in contact with them before coming off the Copaxone? Always best to be safe than sorry, especially with a wee one involved! Good luck! :-)
