Newly diagnosed and wheelchair bound. How to??

Hi 31/m/UK here. I've recently been diagnosed and one of my first attacks has left me unable to move my legs and therefore in a wheelchair. I've started tysabri and had two doses so far. I sometimes I find it hard to commit to social events due to my current condition. In all honesty I don't want some people to see me so vulnerable and also, I don't want to constantly get reminded on what I can't do right now. I mean stuff like get in car, walk to and sit at a table comfortably. Have people had similar thoughts? How do other people cope with overcoming this? Have people gone from not walking to walking again? I'm really hoping I can get on my feet to some extent. Eager to hear some people's stories.

This must be really tough for you. I am still walking but fear losing mobility. Don't give up hope of walking, make sure you get physio. I do lots of iyengar yoga which has really helped keep me on my feet. Some yoga teachers are trained as yoga therapists too https://iyengaryoga.org.uk/iyengar-yoga/iyengar-yoga-therapy/ I follow a girl on Instagram that was told she'd never walk again after diagnosis and is now training to be a ballerina! So don't give up hope.

My experience is that my symptoms have gotten better (eg my bladder and bowel stopped working at one point, now they're fine). Hopefully your ability to walk will follow the same path! I agree with Vicky, yoga is good. I'd say exercise, sleep, healthy diet - all those are good to help your body heal and regain function. Best of luck!
