Stairlifts

Hi all, what’s the lowdown on stairlifts? Is the consensus to get one? I am very fortunate to have enough rooms in my house to make a bedroom downstairs & we are having our large utility/ cloakroom converted into a wetroom. I’m undecided whether to get a stairlift as well to prolong my sleeping upstairs. Trying to keep life for me & my family as ‘normal’ as possible for as long as possible. Diagnosed with PPMS in April & mobility decreasing by the week, getting upstairs is a real struggle! Comments welcome? Colette

Hi @colettepage, I don’t know where you are. I’m in the UK. My OH came to assess me and referred my for a stairlift. I was very reluctant at the start- I’m 46 not ancient! But as time went on I realised it was necessary for me. A woman from the council came round to see if I was eligible. For the first time in my life my verbal diarrhoea was helpful! We got on really well and she arranged for the council to pay for it. With Covid, it’s been a wee bit delayed but it’s getting fitted on Thursday! I can’t wait- it’s going to be so much easier and much safer. I’ll let you know how I go. Anna x

Hi Anna, @condansmum. Thanks for your reply. I’m in Liverpool & although off work at the moment I think I earn too much to qualify for a funded stairlift but I’ll enquire. As you say C-19 is causing havoc with departments in every government/ local government & NHS!!! I’ve spoken to an ms nurse twice but not seen physio or OT. I’ve bought a stick but as I’m not going anywhere outdoors I’m not using it; around the house walls & furniture are my support. I really feel I’ve been abandoned !! Colette
