Normal nerve potentials.

Just got my nerve potentials back, and they flag as normal. The letter says 'this is reassuring'- how? It doesn't disprove a diagnosis of MS, it just puts me right back where I was before. I have 2-4 'unclear' lesions, 1 o-band, progression in numerous symptoms and am a frickin' wheelchair user. How is it possibly reassuring to get another letter that essentially says 'we don't know?' It's been 3 years, and I'm 25 years old. I should be out doing stuff and not worrying about this 'it probably is, but it might not be' stuff around MS. I've got my standing diagnosis of CIS, but that is completely unhelpful. I feel completely left on my own- dealing with a seemingly progressive impairment that everyone says is probably MS, but no one will diagnose as MS. I can't afford private, I can't get a second opinion because I have no idea how to ask ... I just, I don't know. I don't really know what to do now.

@wheelrunconflux , a diagnosis of "I'm not sure" is not a diagnosis, so I can understand your frustration. Unfortunately, there are Neurologists and there are Neurologists, who specialise in MS. It would appear that you have the former, so a second opinion would seem to be the way to go. It would be good if some of our Glaswegian members could suggest a good MS Specialist in the area. The MS Trust (https://www.mstrust.org.uk/about-ms/ms-services-near-me) suggests that the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital may be the place to go. Discuss the situation with your Primary Care Provider, your GP, and ask for the referral. It is your right to ask for a second opinion.

Hi @wheelrunconflux I've thought about how to answer what you've asked so here goes with an attempt at explaining. Imagine your body is a bit like a car, engine( your brain), electricals (your nerves) junction areas (your spine). What the testing proved is that your nerves are all ok they work fine . But where your nerves connect to your various places in your body, you've got bad connections, so you're engine( brain doesn't understand what messages it receives it doesn't understand or just don't receive it in the first place, so it has it best guess and makes you think you've got pins and needles, or it just won't work or spasm and all the other things that don't feel right like double vision and balance problems and the likes. So he's proved that that the nerves are mostly ok it's where they all meet up and connect it's got dodgy connection or the insulation on your nerves have been nibbled by MS or something that causes the lesions which it could be something else that does that but more than likely MS, pain in the arse I know but you have been given the diagnosis of CIS but with more mri scans over time they'll be able to prove exactly what it is. Just got to bare with it mate it'll work its self out, I've been in the same predicament as you, still am to an extent. Hope this helps a bit. Keep smiling.
