Wheelchair

My husband has MS since 2003 and diagnosed at 2005 :(. Two years of late diagnose left lots of damage on his spinal cord . His neurologists concluded that brain has re-wired itself so far he was making 10 miles a day, but latest 1,5 year progression brought him in to 6/10 disability. Now he is making 1/2 mile in his best day. He got first round of Lemtrada recently, we hope it will slow progression. But we made our mind to buy a wheelchair. Quicke is in our target. As it is very expensive my husband want to try the different models before purhase.
We live in southwest london. Do you know anywhere we can make a test drive? Where did you get yours and how did you decide?
Hi @umranakaalp . A Quickie is an expensive option, so for that price range you should be able to expect a demonstration. This company seems to be a UK supplier/manufacturer, https://www.sunrisemedical.co.uk/ , so I would contact them about a demo. The NHS have a wheelchair services section, which would measure your husband for a wheelchair. These measurements are important as wheelchairs are made to measure. Contact your MS Nurse to get a referral. Given the expense of this wheelchair, you may want to hold this purchase in abeyance, until you know how the Lemtrada has worked. Once the progression of MS is halted, the brain can set about trying to repair any MS damage. So, there may be some improvement to come.
I got my wheelchair through Wheelchair services from the NHS. It weighs 5kg and they measured me and built it to suit my needs. I was told by the assessor that they pay 70% less than buying it privately. May be worth trying that first.
