MRI while trying to conceive

Hi all. I'm due to have an MRI tomorrow. My neurologist knows that I've been trying to conceive for a while (after a very traumatic year involving a previous pregnancy loss) and said MRIs are still safe, but I've just filled in the hospital's pre-appointment questionnaire online and it includes the question 'Is there any possibility you might be pregnant?'. I'm towards the end of my cycle for this month, so while it's too early to test, it's not impossible that I could be pregnant, so I assume I'm right in ticking 'yes'? Having read the pregnancy thread further down this page I'm sure there must be others here who've had MRIs while trying to conceive, and I just wondered whether you told the hospital and they were still happy to scan you, or any issues you experienced? Thanks in advance.

Hi! I’m in a similar boat (TTC and loss) and my doc is having me take a blood test just to be sure (although I know I’m not pregnant). They told me that they would just do the MRIs without contrast if I was pregnant. Are yours with and without contrast? I also believe that because my MRIs are of my brain, cervical, and thoracic spine and not lower that pregnancy is less of a concern. Good luck!!

@ColleenO Thanks so much for replying – though I'm really sorry to hear you're in the same rocky boat of TTC and loss. I'm not actually sure if the MRI will be with contrast or not – last year they didn't use it on me, but the year before they did, and I don't know what decides it! My neuro told me to take a pregnancy test on the morning of the MRI but I know it's too early for it to show anything up whether I've conceived this month or not, so I don't think it's going to help. It's really good to know that the MRI might be OK either way without contrast though – I'll make sure I ask the radiologist about that when I go in. Thanks for making me feel less alone with all this – sending you luck with everything too x
