A small step for festivity π
My first MS Christmas! Also my first MS Summer. Yes it is Summer for Christmas in NZ! It is cool and all, but definitely not as great as it sounds when the small - normally enjoyable- beaches are overwhelmed by every man and their dog! And no Christmas sweaters!!!! π
I'm feeling nervous about both those firsts, and seeing family I haven't seen in a long time and being stuck in the draining "so how are you?" conversations. Also is the heat really that bad for MS? And how so/what have been your experiences? Do your already existing symptoms worsen, or do you find yourself with a gift of a million new ones because of the heat? Any recommendations on how to deal would be so amazing. Temperatures are set to be 30C+ π₯΅π₯΅π₯΅
Also anyone know any cool generic secret Santa gifts please be my guest in sharing.... Only 21 days to go π

@alrian Use an umbrella to beat the heat outside. You would be surprised how much that helps. Keep a drink close by. Avoid going out more than you have to and yes, MS symptoms for me do come back in the heat but they go away when I cool down. Don't dwell on the MS part with your family and friends. Answer any questions they have, admit when you don't know the answer yet, and thank them for their concern and then focus on them. You want to enjoy the holidays and to do that, focus on the time you have together doing fun things. MS will be there tomorrow. You are young and there are plenty of new medications and research results coming. Your future should not be that of those even two decades ago like me. You have one life to live. You cannot write this date down after today and there is no rewind button for when you feel better. So capture the moments when you can. Get your rest and avoid stress. You got this!!!
Just monitor yourself in the heat. I was fine for years as long as I didn't exert myself or sit in direct sunlight for periods of time. Now, I can't live without my A/C in the summer! Limit your partying. Keep in mind that you might tire more quickly or suddenly, particularly when drinking, and the recovery time will probably take longer. That said, have fun! Christmas only comes once a year, so make the most of it!
