Question about changing DMTs

Hello, I'm in the UK and have been on Copaxone since 2020, shortly after diagnosis. My last MRI in 2022 showed no new lesions, which is great. However, I'd like to change to Kesimpta, but as my MS isn't considered "active" does that mean I wouldn't meet the criteria? Or do you not need to meet the criteria if you're already on another DMT? It's confusing! Thank you x
@RedRightHand

Hey Moglula, I'm currently on Tecfidera and will be switching to Kesimpta soon. I was offered the opportunity to change as soon as I'd had a relapse (loss of fine movement in my left hand, all recovered now) and new lesions were identified on the subsequent MRI. Just wading through the beaurocracy of the process now... 😉 I think you wouldn't meet the criteria if you've not had any worsening symptoms or new MRI activity. Not to pry, but why do you want to switch DMT? It's great you've not had any progression since you started Copaxone.

@Moglula

@RedRightHand Hi, thanks for your reply :) I mainly want to switch because I initially chose Copaxone as it was the only treatment I could take during pregnancy. But as it's only moderately effective compared to other DMTs, I'd rather be on a treatment that will provide more protection long-term now. I also prefer the idea of once-monthly injections compared to 3x weekly! Maybe I need to wait until I've had another MRI (whenever that might be - follow-up arrangements are unclear and overdue).
