Keeping a diary - pros and cons

Hi all, one of the strange things about MS is how variable it is from person to person, from day to day (or by season) and how quickly or slowly it changes through time, and how it varies between female and male sufferers. However, I find myself itching to reply to a lot of posts by saying "Do keep a diary" i.e a diary of your symptoms - noting how and when they vary and what, if anything, might have 'set them off'. But, I have a scientific/reasoning attitude to MS - I don't have a problem tracking it, quantifying it, analysing it. BUT if you are more emotional (and that's not better or worse than my approach, it's just different), then keeping a note of your symptoms (especially in too much detail) may make you more anxious or cause you to worry. So as the saying goes, "If the cap fits, wear it" [not that many people wear caps these days, so an alternative phrase might be "experiment with ways of handling your MS symptoms and stick to what works best for you"] - a good example being to share your needs/issues on this forum to get support and hopefully good advice... which will give you options to try, and then stick with what you like the most, as two people with MS with the same symptoms may prefer different ways of managing them, that's the beauty of being human - we are all different, and so different things do (or don't) work for us.
