Thinking of giving up as a solicitor

Hi I am 46 I qualified as a solicitor in 2000, same year I was diagnosed with MS which is rather ironic! I have made the decision not to continue, my brain isn’t as sharp as it was, memory is bad, I blame Anti Epilepic Meds. I am also unable to drive any distance or just around town. I want to be doing something that involves people. Has anyone been in a similar situation and have any suggestions? Thank you very much.

Hi @djmazzapie whilst not a solicitor, I felt the ame way and gave up work last October. The memory was not so good and the driving shocking. Crap to lose out on the cash but better for me health wise

Dear @djmazzapie, I feel your pain! I was a criminal barrister on the Northern and N.E. Circuits. I was diagnosed in 2017, after two bad relapses which put me in hospital. I emerged with my ability to walk badly affected. The travel had been bad, as had coping with badly designed court buildings, which are not remotely disabled-friendly. I noticed that my memory was getting unreliable, and I had speech difficulties. All in all, far from ideal as a barrister... I just couldn't go on, and retired in '17. My stress levels have gone down considerably, which can only be a good thing as far as my M.S. is concerned. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Best wishes, jon
