My husband has MS

Hi all, I'm new to the site, so please bear with me. My husband was diagnosed with MS a couple of years ago. He's been struggling to find a DMT that suits him and he had to give up work at Christmas. I work full time, but he was the main breadwinner in the household. We're just about keeping our heads above water, but it looks like we have to sell our house and move into social housing. This isn't an issue, I'll be happy as long as we're together with a roof over our heads. The problem is that we won't be considered for social housing unless our house is SOLD?? So essentially, we're expected to make ourselves homeless first?! Any advice? We can't afford private rent either. Many thanks

Hi @sholyoak and welcome. I'd have a chat with Citizens Advice (CAB) as they must have dealt with this problem before.

Hello @sholyoak. My situation is a little bit similar, in that I was diagnosed but was also the breadwinner whilst my husband was retraining. Anyways, we are about to go through a major downsize and are moving across the country to seek out a better quality of life - less work/mortgage, restructure of lifestyle. To do this, we had to really think outside of the box and approach life in an entirely different way. Pre-Brexit is a tough time to sell; what about applying to your mortgage lender to get permission to rent out your house? Income might cover a private rental. I don't know how old you are; I'm in my fifties but at any age I'd say it's possible to redesign your life. If we can do it, so can you! x
