Medication is finally beginning!

Hi all, I'm finally starting DMT!! Tecfidera on around 9th Sept. So anxious about it, completely unsure what to expect. My experience to date is finding appointments (even blood tests and chest x-ray) completely overwhelming. Home for a good cry and a sleep afterwards. Is this something I'll get used to? When I spoke to the occupational health about a leave of absence from work for the first few weeks - at least for the first two until I'm up to full dosage and she had a more "play it by ear" approach but I just already know I'll need the whole experience completely draining. How do you cope with appointments, just the general life change? Did you allow yourself much "time off life" when starting medication?

Hello @katrinaf93, I’m a Teccie too, so appreciate what you’re going through. The thing to bear in mind is that it’s for the greater good. If you use the search boxabove there are lots of posts and tips. I have been on it for over 2 years with no issues at all. Some people have gastro issues and upsets but not everyone. The most important thing is to take it always with a proper meal with a balance of fat and protein. Take it half way through. I’ve only ever had minor flushing a few hours later and sometimes nose runs a bit. I waited to start taking it when I was on a holiday, but I needn’t have feared or made a fuss at all, everything was fine. Always keep a spare in your bag or at work, in case you forget to pack one. Never take 2 together if you forget. I hope you get on OK with it. In my opinion, it is one of the best DMDs you can take as I fits in perfectly with lifestyle, so good luck x

Hi. Tec was the first medication that I tried and al though it affected me quite badly initially, I didn't take the time off until I really needed too. As long as you take it with the recommended food and have the necessary other medications to help with the side affects you should be fine. Everybody is different though, so play it by ear and see how you go. Good luck with it.X
