Changing from Copaxone to Gilenya

Hi Everyone, I'm just wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I've recently had an MRI scan and my neurologist has informed me that there is a new legion. He is suggesting I change to gilenya. I have been on Copaxone injections for 2 and a half years. I am a bit hesitant to change as I am 28 years old and I will be considering having kids in the coming years. Has anybody been in this position or could give me any advice. Thanks. Donna. :)

@donna , I can't say that I've been in that position......... However, you need to make your plans clear to your Consultant as your lifeplan will have a bearing on your next Disease Modifying Therapy (DMT). A change is obviously necessary as the Copaxone is no longer up to the job. You might want to consider Lemtrada as your next DMT. Infusions over 5 days in year one and over 3 days in year two and that's it. The drug itself clears through your system in a matter of weeks....... The following provides details of all the DMTs :- https://support.mstrust.org.uk/file/store-pdfs/MS-Decisions-ALL.pdf

@buitenmus

My neuro told me that I couldn't try To get pregnant while taking Gilenya, but I had to stop taking Gilenya 2 months before starting getting pregnant, so the lymphocytes,... Are back to normaal and all medication is out of Your system. So It shouldn't keep you from starting a Family, I Guess It takes a bit more planning. But ask Your neuro, she knows the details.
