Advice please ?

Hi all, this is my first post and would like some advice. My wife has SPMS and can do very little for herself now and i am her sole carer 24/7... The difficulty i am having is lifting and transfering her multiple times during the day and night to the loo. It is on average 40 lifts a day, from chair to wheelchair, wheelchair to loo, loo to wheelchair then wheelchair to chair. She cannot weight bear and this has been going on for over 2 years and i am now struggling. I am not getting any younger and i am exhausted. Contacted GP, MS nurse and nothing is offered as a solution ? All i hear is that i shouldnt be lifting but given no alternative suggestions. I am really struggling with this daily routine and dont know what to do next ? We also had a visit from occupational health and again, no real help as to the immediate issue. Any suggestions please ?

Hi @tom11 . I can sense your desperation with the current situation. Unfortunately, different agencies don't seem to be able to talk or work together. But contact your Council :- https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/info/20018/adult_social_care They should come and assess your situation and then let you know what assistance they can provide. There may be a cost for this assistance, which depends on your financial circumstances. You may also be eligible for this, unless it's already claimed :- https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/info/20144/exemptions_and_discounts/810/homes_adapted_for_a_disabled_person_discount

Hi @stumbler, thanks for your reply :) I have contacted the local council, in fact it was after i had to call an ambulance for my wife that they contacted social services and it was followed up with the OH visit. As a result we have been given a shower chair which is supposed to fit over the loo but doesnt.... so that is now redundant and needs to be returned. We have claimed the reduction in council tax which is a help and more people should take advantage of this.
