Gut Instinct

Hello, everyone. So, I have recently been going through a bit of discomfort since the end of July. What started as a very slow progression and tenderness in my left kidney area has increased into an annoying and relentless pressure and tenderness across the left side of my abdomen. Nausea along with a lack of appetite has resulted in me losing 10 pounds which I wouldn't mind if I wasn't so concerned as to why. I have visited my general practitioner twice and started acid reflux medicine with the thought it was gerd. I have had blood work for the liver and pancreas, all was fine. Still, the discomfort has increased. I went to a GI specialist. I have had 2 scans for my gallbladder and its function. Again all is good. But with things slowing down (if you know what I mean) I started taking some laxatives to help. The GI doctor has scheduled me to have an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Ugh. I think that will be beneficial and hopefully get to the heart of what is or isn't going on. The date however for this test isn't until a month out which is frustrating but the doctor is working on hopefully changing some schedules. Last night, unfortunately, the pain was so uncomfortable (I should mention that my diet at this point has been very small light meals with less and less) that I had to go to the ER. Needless to say but luckily everything checked out. Blood work looked great, blood pressure perfect, urinalysis fine, CT scan showed bowels and organs looked good. The only thing wrong was that I had to deal with a nice but patronizing doctor that was convinced nothing is wrong. I hate that feeling. There has to be something not right! I don't want to find anything but I can't stand feeling like this! I am moving around and tending to things but my mind is on this constant sensation. A strain wouldn't affect my eating habits, and stress yes I guess could but I don't think my stress has been anything to the point where I would drop 10 pounds. Believe me, I have tried! I guess I will wait to have these scopes but my question is, could any of this be from MS? My MS sensations have all been left sided issues. Left hand numb, electrical sensations down my left leg occur from time to time, there are few lesions on the left side of my cervical spine, my left foot sometimes becomes numb with too much exercise and heat and I was dealing with my left hip aching along with those pin and needle sensations but that's done thankfully. Geez, I sound like a mess! You'd never know it though. ;) Anyway, my fear is whether or not your colon being on the left side can lose the ability to function properly due to an MS attack? Nerve damage? I feel better with less food but the discomfort however is still there, just less of it until I begin to eat normally again, then the cycle returns. If these scopes check out I will be grateful, but perplexed. I am hoping just as how it mysteriously started it will mysteriously fade away. I have not consulted my neurologist yet but maybe I should? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Stay well and hopeful. Thanks, everyone.

Hi @mscole, really sorry about your problem with pain. You mention colon in particular. I remember when I was pregnant ( no suggestion intended ) I had terrible pain in the colon area, saw the GP who suggested massage from the naval in a curved sweep down to the groin. It worked. It could be a temporary blockage as mine was. Hope so as all tests have shown nothing wrong. Good Luck with your 'oscopys.....let us know how you get on. Xx

Hi @mscole . It is frustrating when you never know what's causing what! Anyway, here's a small MS booklet, which covers some of the bowel issues we have to manage :- https://support.mstrust.org.uk/file/bowels-managing-your-bowels.pdf
