Zika, immunocompromised, babies and MS

Planning our belated honeymoon via a wedding in Thailand in March. Have just looked up the risk profile and its a high risk zika area. Was planning on starting a family next year so am dismayed advice for my husband is to wait 6 months after being in a high risk area. Am also scared of acquiring zika given low lymphocytes (0.2) on Fingolimod. Anyone with any experience/advice of travelling in high zika risk areas would be much appreciated.

Hi @cailindeas , you are right to view the warnings on Zika seriously and to consider taking the suggested precautions. However, Thailand is a big place and tourist (beach) areas are probably less likely to have a problem than the inland regions, where the environment is "more conducive" to mozzies. The following website, http://www.healthmap.org/promed/ , does not feature any recent infectious outbreaks in Thailand. It's best to discuss your concerns with your GP and obtain their advice and see if you can plan for some proactive monitoring for when you return. You could also explore sites like TripAdvisor (https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/) for the resort(s) you intend to visit, to see whether mozzies have been, or are, a problem. Try and be as forewarned and as prepared as you can, then you can enjoy the experience, rather than having to keep a watch over your shoulder.
