Chemo

I had chemo for my MS (never really certain why,was too ill to object). Had several bad things happen to me e.g went thro' menopause early & got sterilsed ( without asking )& generally felt very sh*t. I also put on 3 stone (it's off now) but wondered if anyone could give me a medical reason as to why you put on weight whilst on chemo. I would have thought it would be the opposite. A dr said it was water retention,but how would that work 🤔
@Clary

Hi, I have no idea why you were given this treatment 🤷‍♀️. Could your MS team shed some light, or GP? HSCT involves a kind of chemotherapy that destroys immune cells. Different procedure to chemotherapy. Whether what you described was a trial before HSCT 🤷‍♀️. Has the trial got a name? Other MSers may have been on it? Hope you can find info.

Hi @Deborah275 was your treatment called lemtrada (alemtuzumab)? This is a chemotherapy drug used to treat relapsing/remitting MS. I received the 2 intravenous treatments of this back in 2016/2017 and another treatment in 2019. My weight gain was due to my thyroid being effected by the treatment, this is a very common side effect. If it was lemtrada that you received you would be monitored with monthly blood and urine tests for 4 years after your last treatment. Anything untoward such as your thyroid being thrown out would flag up on your tests.
