Long Relapse!

Hi all, me again! So, I have been having symptoms since January and was diagnosed in March. Since March I have had full immobility and numbness on my whole body including half my face. My question is how long does this initial flare up normally last. All the drs keep saying I’ll get out of this “acute” phase but no one has been able to give me a time frame and I’m a month down the line with no sign of progress really. I know it’s all individual but would be nice to hear other people’s story’s. Thank you

I understand how you feel my doctors will say you are young and you will “bounce back from this” and then say I won’t be back to my “normal self” sounds very counterintuitive. I constantly had to remind myself that doctors are not God and that this disease hasn’t been mastered because if it was there would be a cure. Unfortunately doctors need to rely on statistics and what they have seen which is both where people bounce back and who don’t. Therefore you need to be strong, take your medicine, and try to stay healthy. Healthy body and mind. This isn’t a quick fix. I was diagnosed in September 2023 with my first flare and I’m still recovering from it. It took trial and error to find the right meds. I started in a wheelchair and was very stubborn and determined to get out. It took time and a lot of falls but I am out of the wheelchair. You will get there too!

Wow that sounds really tough, sorry to hear you're going through this. MS can be very unpredictable. If it's relapses we're talking about, time and healthy living can do wonders. After diagnosis I immediately had a relapse. I took the steroids, started with a DMD treatment and then 5 years with no further ones. I've recently had another one, but the effects of that initial relapse have gone almost entirely. The only time I'll have 'echoes' of it are if I'm run-down/ill/being a stress-head lol! I hope this helps, keep the faith.
